HEALTH BENEFITS OF PROTEIN IN OUR PROTEIN BARS
We use two different protein sources depending on the flavour of bar you choose.
1. New Zealand Grass Fed Whey Isolate - The highest quality, cleanest whey protein available in the world. Tested 100% heavy metal and pesticide-free.
2. Organic Vegan Protein Blend - A combination of certified organic Canadian pea protein isolate and brown rice protein containing all essential amino acids.
Our energy bars are a fast and convenient way to get more protein in your diet. This can benefit your health in a number of ways:
- Reduce appetite. Protein not only increases how full you feel after eating, but it has has a small, but significant effect on reducing ghrelin (a.k.a “the hunger hormone”).
- Increases muscle building and repair. Muscle protein synthesis provides muscle growth, repair, and maintenance. When you exercise, your muscle fibers become damaged and inflamed. The protein you consume fuels recovery, and while recovering the muscle fibers are built stronger than before. Eating protein either before or after a workout will lead to increased muscle protein synthesis.
- Stabilize blood sugar. Stabilizing blood sugar is important for diabetics, but it can also prevent overeating, improve concentrations, and help stabilize mood. Studies found that protein stabilizes blood sugar after consumption.
- May reduce LDL and total cholesterol levels. Studies have shown that increasing protein intake can reduce LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, reduce total cholesterol and reduce triglycerides. This can lower your risk of heart disease or strokes.
- Strengthen bones. Protein and calcium work together to increase bone density. In fact, low protein diets are linked to increased bone loss.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF NUT BUTTERS
- Weight control. The high protein, fiber, and healthy fats in nut butters keep you feeling full and energized which can help you eat fewer calories later in the day. Nuts may even help your body burn energy, even at rest. Nut butters contain healthier unsaturated fats rather than the less healthy the saturated fats in meat or trans fats in processed foods.
- Packed with nutrients. Nuts contain Vitamins E and B6, folate, and niacin. It contains many minerals like magnesium, zinc, copper, potassium, and selenium. The nut butters we use in our bars have no added sugar, preservatives, or trans-fats.
- Full of antioxidants. Antioxidants work to protect your cells from damage. Some of the antioxidants included in nut butters include flavonoids, phenols, and polyphenols. This could be part of the reason that eating nuts can help reduce risk of heart disease and protect against colon cancer.
- Keeps cholesterol in check. Nuts lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides, while keeping HDL (“good”) cholesterol high.
- Reduce risk of heart disease. In addition to keeping cholesterol in check, consuming nuts and nut butters makes it less likely that you’ll develop atherosclerosis -- this is when your blood vessels harden. Atherosclerosis can weaken your heart and lead to heart failure, cause irregular heart beats, or put you at risk for stroke.
- Full of magnesium. Nut butters, like cashew and peanut butter, have lots of magnesium. This mineral is good for your nerves, bones, muscles, blood sugar, blood pressure, and DNA repair.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF DATES
- Excellent Natural Sweetener. Dates are a source of fructose, a natural source of sugar found in fruit. The sweet, subtle caramel-like taste make a delicious and healthy substitute for glucose syrup or high fructose corn syrup our energy bars.
- High in fiber. Most people already know that fiber benefits digestive health by preventing constipation. Fiber is also beneficial for blood sugar control as it slows digestion and helps prevent blood sugar levels from spiking after eating. For this reason, dates have a low glycemic index (GI).
- High in antioxidants. Dates contain disease-fighting antioxidants, such as flavonoids, carotenoids, and phenolic acids. Together these antioxidants can help reduce inflammation. They have been studied for their potential to promote heart health, reduce the risk of diabetes, and certain types of cancer.
Our bars are super-convenient for that healthy snack on-the-go. So much better than grabbing for a bag of chips or candy bar when that midday hunger hits. It can also help pre- and post-workout support by providing you with steady energy during your activity and supplying your body with the building blocks needed to generate and repair muscle tissue afterwards.
We can go over all the health benefits of our ingredients at length, but let’s face it, the biggest benefit of our energy bars is that they’re just so darnn TASTY!
